The Interpretation Program

  1. The Newkeys Interpretation Program is the last and highest-level module of our program set, focusing mainly on achieving technical refinement and artistry where guidance is provided to empower students to find their independent interpretation of their repertoire.

  2. Designed to cater towards students with more advanced performance and examination objectives.

  3. AMEB Grade 7 and above / Preparation for Conservatorium.

Program Details

  • Part 1: Technical Refinement & Artistry:

    • Refinement of advanced technical skills, including scales, arpeggios, and more complex finger exercises.

    • Introduce virtuoso techniques such as rapid passages, double notes, and challenging hand positions.

    • Increased focus on achieving greater control, speed, and accuracy.

    • Develop advanced pedalling techniques to enhance the sound and texture of the music.

    • Explore a wider range of advanced-level repertoire.

    • Emphasise significant works by renowned composers, as well as contemporary pieces.

    • Deepening musical expression by exploring a wider range of dynamics, phrasing, and tonal colours.

    • Work on conveying complex emotions and conveying the essence of each piece through thoughtful interpretation.

    • Explore advanced music theory concepts, including modal harmony, chromaticism, and advanced harmonic progressions.

    • Analysis of complex musical structures and forms.

    • Continual improvement of sight-reading abilities through exposure to challenging and diverse music.

    • Develop advanced aural skills, including complex interval recognition and harmonic dictation.

    • Deepen student's knowledge of music history and encourage them to explore music-related topics.

  • Part 2: Advanced AMEB Exams, Conservatorium Auditions and Competition:

    • Intensive preparation for Grade 7-and-above exams for AMEB.

    • Training for high-level competition (subject to student’s interest and desire)

    • Preparation for Conservatorium auditions ((subject to student’s interest and desire)

  • Part 3: Professional development as a performer and collaborator:

    • Work on refining performance skills: stage presence, performance anxiety management and delivering compelling and memorable performances.

    • For students considering a career in music — guidance on professional pathways, auditions, and building a musical career.

    • Guidance on cultivation of lifelong commitment to learning, artistry, and artistic exploration.

PROGRAM EVALUATION

  • Weekly reports and analysis delivered to student and/or parents.

  • End of term review directly with student.
