The Exploration Program

1. The Newkeys Exploration Program is our foundational module focused on developing the fundamental building blocks for piano studies.

2. Ideal for most new students to effectively assess student’s level and reinforce proper foundation in early stages.

3. AMEB preliminary – Grade 3 exams

Program Details

• Part 1: Foundations of Piano and Musicianship:

  • Introduction to proper posture and proper hand position.

  • Development of finger strength and finger independence.

  • Lessons on increasing agility and achieving coordination.

  • Learning note names, rhythm, time signatures, and key signatures.

  • Introduction of music reading techniques.

  • Introduction to musical terms such as dynamics and tempo markings.

  • Exploring a wide range of songs to determine student’s unique interests.

  • Aural training and simple improvisation.

• Part 2: Repertoire Exploration:

  • Collaborate with student’s strengths and interests to expand repertoire for maximum suitability.

  • Inculcate the discipline of practice within mindset of student.

  • Explore performance opportunities to help build experience.

• Part 3: Exploration of AMEB exams:

  • Begin process of introducing AMEB syllabus, general knowledge questions and exam guidelines.

  • Preparation for preliminary-Grade 3 exams (assessed on case-by-case basis).

PROGRAM EVALUATION

• Weekly email reports delivered to student and/or parents.

• End-of-Term Reports to review students progress and assess readiness for preliminary – Grade 3 exams.
